Are you a Teacher in Australia? This is how you apply for a skills assessment with AITSL.

Early Childhood educators were included in Victoria's Workforce Skills Pathways which provide eligible early childhood teachers access to Victorian nominated skilled 190 and 491 visas. To be eligible, you must possess or obtain a positive skills assessment from the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership.


What are the qualifications required for Early Childhood (Pre-primary School) Teacher (ANZSCO 241111)?

Completion of a minimum of four years full-time (or part-time equivalent) higher education (university) level study that results in qualification/s. This must include a relevant initial teacher education qualification and can include other qualifications.


Initial Teacher Education (ITE) qualification

  • The study must include an initial teacher education qualification comparable to the educational level of an Australian Bachelor degree (Australian Qualifications Framework Level 7) or higher, which includes:


i) at least one year full-time (or part-time equivalent) higher education (university) level study of Early Childhood (Pre-primary School) Teacher initial teacher education


ii) completion of at least 45 days of supervised teaching practice with students across the Birth to 8 years age range in education programs prior to and in the early years of primary school.


Other higher education qualifications

  • Other higher education qualification/s contributing to the four years of study must be comparable to the educational level of an Australian Advanced Diploma/Associate Degree (Australian Qualifications Framework Level 6) or higher.


NOTE: AITSL does not assess short courses (less than one year full-time study), professional development programs or incomplete qualifications.

Is there a minimum study period requirement?

What level of English is required?

  • Completion of at least four full years of study (or part-time equivalent) in higher education (university) in Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States

  • An Academic version of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Test Report Form (TRF) that shows a score of at least 7.0 for both Reading and Writing; and a score of at least 8.0 for both Speaking and Listening


What are the documents required?

  • Proof of identity (passport identity page and page opposite/birth certificate/national Identity card/Official photo-bearing document e.g. driver license;/evidence of change of name e.g. marriage certificate)

  • English language proficiency (IELTS/TRF)


How much does it cost?

  • Application for skills assessment AUD 1050

  • Appeal of assessment outcome AUD 868

  • Skilled Employment Statement (SES) AUD 234

*No Goods and Services Tax (GST) is charged on any AITSL Assessment for Migration fee.


What is the processing time?

AITSL's estimated processing time is 10 to 12 weeks from the date of submission. The 10 to 12-week timeline only applies if a complete application is received. If an application is incomplete or incorrect this will delay the processing of your application.
